Homestead Exemption: Unlocking Savings in Cleveland County
Farm Release
The Homestead Waiver is a $1,000 waiver of the estimated valuation. It can mean a savings of $75 to $125, depending on which part of the county you are in.Qualify
You must be the owner who resides on the property on January 1st. The deed must be signed by January 1st and filed with the county registry office by February 1st. Must be an Oklahoma resident.
To apply
A person can apply for the Homestead Exemption in person, by mail, or by emailing application@okco14.org. You can request a copy of the Homestead form by mail or download it from the website via a link on the homepage. We are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. so that you can apply in person. The office is open from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Our office is at 201 S. Jones Room 120, Norman, OK. In addition, a list of off-site locations to provide additional housing to meet the Homestead waiver will be established in early January.
Gross family income
“Gross household income” is defined at 68 O.S. Section 2890, as used in this section, as “the amount of income, from any source, earned by ALL PERSONS living together, whether such income is subject to federal, state, or non-state, including pensions, annuities, federal social security, unemployment benefits, veterans’ disability benefits, welfare benefits, alimony, alimony, workers’ compensation insurance, lost-time insurance payments, capital gains and any other income received, excluding gifts, sufficient evidence to show the validity of tax returns.
Householder
“Householder” is defined in 68 O.S. Article 2890 as “the person who, as owner or co-owner, maintains housing and provides for the maintenance of household goods and other material needs.”
